Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Hamsters?

Not to make light of the ecological issues involved, but I was drawn to this article on the Great Hamster of Alsace by the phrase "wild hamsters," which is highly amusing to anyone whose only experience is with their wheel-running relatives.

Clearly the reporter had the same American childhood associations, given the opening line of the article: "France was punished on Thursday for not taking proper care of its hamsters."

Har har har.

I saw that too! I think you were probably also drawn in by the photograph of the super adorable hamster, with his tiny hands and face.

I was super amused by the picture of the hamster standing in what appears to be a colander. And like you, Teague, I was entertained by the opening line. Clearly, a chance to mock the French safely.

The hamsters are admittedly adorable, Risa. Hannah, I also noted the hamster in the colander at the breeding center. Apparently the holes are sized just right so that the Great hamsters remain, while the not-so-Great hamsters fall back into the hamster vat.
