Ouch

"The Economist has always had all sorts of ideological disagreements with Mr Bush, but our main problem with his administration has increasingly become incompetence."

Thanks, Teague (although it took me a minute to come up with the right sport).

Do you know what "the notorious $231m “bridge to nowhere” in Alaska" from the energy bill is?

Here's an article at Salon. The short version: An island with 50 people living on it will be connected to the mainland by a $223 million bridge because Sen. Ted Stevens thought that would rev up the local economy. I'm not exaggerating.

Some pork barrel spending is a matter of worthy priorities jumping a few rungs on the ladder (say, Congressman Sabo and MN bike trail funding). But this is obscene -- the ultimate poster child.

Hold on, that one is from the transportation bill...perhaps there's yet another from the energy bill that I'm not aware of? Oy, I hope not.

I probably just got it wrong. That is obscene. Holy crap.
