July 4th weekend

It was a good long weekend. Today Zach, Emily, Lisa and I went hiking on the Veach Gap trail in George Washington National Forest, which is northwest of Shenandoah National Park. The day was overcast, but it didn't rain.

Where there were also lots of wild blueberries to eat!


And we saw a bear! No picture of that, though.

Looks like a nice hike. Did you camp on top?

Nope, but I'd like to at some point. The campsite is great, right behind where I took that picture, and the area is lightly-used -- on a holiday weekend Sunday, the only person we saw was a trail volunteer with a chainsaw clearing the blowdowns.
